Other Musical Activities
Musical activities at the Conference extend
beyond the scheduled coaching sessions, embracing multiple opportunities to
play, listen, and learn about music.
Informal Ensemble Playing (All Weeks)
— During free, unscheduled time, participants and auditors can form their own ensembles with
new and old musical friends. Through the Guest Faculty program, participants
and auditors have unique opportunities to make music with professionals. How much or how
little one participates in informal playing is completely up to the individual.
The Conference's extensive library of parts for over 1,000 works is available to
the
Conference community for informal playing, as is the Bennington
College music library.
Conference Concert Series (All Weeks) — The
Conference faculty presents chamber music concerts on Wednesdays and Saturdays
of Weeks 2 and 3, and on Saturdays of the Intensive Week and Week 1. Concerts
are open to the public. See the Concerts and
Seminars page.
Open Rehearsals (All Weeks) —
Conference members are invited to attend open rehearsals, as faculty groups prepare for
performances on the Conference Concert Series.
Seminars (All Weeks) — Each Thursday
evening, guest lecturers and/or members of the faculty present seminars, often related to
the music programmed on the Conference Concert Series. Seminars are open to the
public. See the Concerts and Seminars page.
Participant Recitals (All Weeks) —
Informal concerts on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons provide participants the
opportunity to perform works on which they have been coached during the week.
Performance is optional; a group performs if all members wish to
and the coach and Music Director choose to include the group on a recital
program.
Workshops and Lectures (All Weeks) —
Each week, members of the faculty present workshops or lectures, with an emphasis
on the practicing, rehearsing, and performance of chamber music.
Lunch with the Composer (Weeks 1, 2,
and 3) — The Composer-in-Residence holds an informal lunch-hour talk each Friday at noon.
